"But, They Don't Torture the Animals, Right?" (Debate Post)

Study: Meat And Dairy Produce More Greenhouse Gases Than You Think

Hello and welcome back to all my Nature's New Nook Subscribers! I hope you all are coming along on your vegan journey. For today's blog post, I typically do not enjoy using this graphic method to get the vegan message across. But sometimes you have to get real gruesome with visuals, I am not trying to shove my veganism down your throat but spreading awareness to this repulsive industry. TRIGGER WARNING: THIS POST INCLUDES GRAPHIC IMAGES AND DISTURBING CONTENT.

Not only am I vegan because of the health and environmental aspects, but I am a huge animal rights activist. I am here today to speak up for those forgotten victims of the world, animals. One of the biggest debates that vegans are faced with often pertains to the treatment of animals in the food industry. I am here today to debate all those "facts" that these industries try to get you to believe.

Many people love to use the argument, "they don't torture the cows and pigs before they kill them." This claim is so easily disputed, I could just simply insert a graphic video of a factory farming meat plant. But I'd rather give you the nitty-gritty and gross details. For nearly their entire four month pregnancies, female pigs are locked in narrow metal stalls barely big enough for their own bodies. Many of the animals develop open sores and scratches from workers kicking, hitting, and yelling at pigs to move them. Then after birthing piglets, workers cut into their skin, rip out their testicles, followed by cutting off their tails. The piglets who become sick, injured, or not growing at a rapid pace--are quickly slaughtered. Common killing methods include tossing animals into bins and gassing them with carbon dioxide; others are killed by being slammed head first into the ground. Factory farmed animals typically only live up to 6-12 months, a mere fraction of their natural lifespan.

Inhumane Practices on Factory Farms

Okay but what about the cows, all they do is milk them? WRONG. DISPUTE.

The dairy industry in my opinion is worse than the meat industry. Though the industry markets by painting a picture of happy and free cows, it is far from the truth. People think we are doing cows a favor by milking them. So how is milk actually produced? There are two sides to this, what happens to the mother and what happens to her baby. For mother, just like humans, they produce milk to feed to their young--and like humans, in order to produce milk you need to be pregnant. The difference is that cows are artificially inseminated every few months BY a human. Then after they give birth the baby is immediately ripped away from the mother, and if the baby happens to be a male, they are immediately slaughtered. Then the process continues all over again, the mother is impregnated over and over until she is too weak to produce anymore milk. She is then also slaughtered.
